Medicare Coverage for COVID-19

As the COVID-19 pandemic unfortunately continues, many seniors are wondering what Medicare covers when it comes to Coronavirus. Today we take a look at this important topic to help bring some clarity for you.

Medicare covers the following items related to COVID-19:

·       FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine

·       Provider visit to your home to administer COVID-19 vaccine if you have a disability or challenges getting to a vaccination location

·       Lab tests for COVID-19

·       FDA-authorized COVID-19 antibody tests if you were diagnosed with a known or suspected COVID-19 infection

·       Monoclonal antibody treatments for COVID-19

·       Medically necessary hospitalizations (hospital deductibles, copays, or coinsurances may apply)

·       Expanded telehealth services

When you receive a COVID-19 vaccine, your provider is not allowed to charge you for an office visit if you received no other medical services at the time of the visit. If you were charged, check your receipt for any mistakes and call your provider to ask for a refund. If you have Original Medicare coverage, look over your “Medicare Summary Notice” and report anything suspicious by calling 1-800-MEDICARE. If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, look over your “Explanation of Benefits” and report anything suspicious to your insurer.

It is also very important to be vigilant for scammers. Never give your Medicare Number to anyone offering you a vaccine. If someone offers you a vaccine for a fee, it is a scam and you should not give them any personal information.

As we all know, the information surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve. For the most current information, visit CDC.gov/coronavirus and USA.gov/coronavirus. For more information about Medicare and COVID-19, visit medicare.gov/medicare-coronavirus. Please stay safe and stay healthy.
