Medicare and Dental Care

Medicare Dental Care

If you have Medicare, you may be wondering what your options are for dental care. The unfortunate news is that Medicare does not cover most dental care including things like cleanings, fillings, tooth extractions, dentures, dental plates and other dental devices.

Original Medicare may pay for some dental services before or as part of certain related medical procedures. Medicare Part A will pay for certain dental services that you get when you’re in a hospital. Some Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) offer dental benefits, so this is an option you may wish to explore.

Check out this helpful video from the Medicare Rights Center:

If you don’t have dental coverage, other options include:

  • Medicaid covers some dental services in certain states
  • Private dental insurance
  • Reduced cost or free dental clinics
  • Dental clinics at hospitals
  • Federally Qualified Health Centers
  • Community Health Centers
  • Dental schools

Dental care is important to keep up on since your teeth and gums impact so many facets of your health and well-being. If you would like to discuss dental coverage options, we are happy to help!
